Joanne Sonnichsen

Sonnichsen, who holds a design degree from Stanford University, studied with Donald Glaister and Sün Evrard. She has been exhibiting since 1979, and teaching since 1984. Sonnichsen is one of the nine founding members of AIR Neuf (France), is past President of the Hand Bookbinders of California, The Book Club of California, and the Colophon Club. Her work is represented in American and European collections.

Coptic binding with handmade paste paper and onlays of dyed vellum. Leather strips on front and back boards. The top edge is sprinkled. Handmade paper end sheets.
Design Description:
The design is a non-literal expression of the book's poetry. The binding will be a traditional French laced on binding of full leather, dark blue and black calf, featuring Martello Tower silhouetted against the night sky. Two-on sewn pattern, with the original covers bound in. Rough-edge gilding on the head and gold tooling on the covers and spine.
