The guest book opening shows the signature of John Wesley Hardt. The son of a Methodist minister, Hardt entered the ministry while studying at Lon Morris College (Jacksonville, Texas) and Southern Methodist University (B.A.,1942, B.D. 1946). He was ordained a Deacon in 1943 and an Elder in 1944. Rev. Hardt’s ministerial career began with leading seven circuits and charges in the Texas Annual Conference. In 1977 he became a district superintendent. From 1980 until 1988 Hardt served as bishop of the Oklahoma Area of the United Methodist Church. In retirement he served Perkins School of Theology as Bishop-in-Residence from 1988 until 2000.
