Upper Basement Open Study

The casual open study area is a space created as part of the 2020 building reconfiguration. With the exception of a depiction from the Book of Tobit and an exhibition poster both by Leonard Baskin, the artwork displayed in this part of the building originated in North Texas. Featured are three powerful images, remnants of the Holocaust by emergency room physician Jeff Gusky, a painting by Arthello Beck of the entombed Christ, a charcoal drawing by Fort Worth Circle artist Kelly Fearing, a lithograph of a circuit rider by Dallas Nine member Merritt Mauzey, an etching titled The Shrine by Meadows School of the Arts graduate James Robinson, two works by Dallas artist Fred Nagler, and a broadside and bronze sculpture honoring social activist Carl Brannin whose thousand-volume collection was established at Bridwell in 1965.
