Gift of Evelyn Oppenheimer

Ramon Mitchell Froman (19081980), born in Louise, Texas, studied at the American Academy in Chicago. Moving to Dallas in 1946 his watercolor landscapes explored seasonal light over woodlands, rural structures, and the dunes and boat docks of Galveston Bay. Froman taught at Dallas’s Northwood Experimental Art Institute, now Northwood University in Cedar Hill, and later established the Ramon Froman School of Art in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. His sensitive oil portraits of Pueblo and Navajo women were among his later works. Ramon Froman’s papers are in the collection of the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.
