This sermon was preached at the Leeds Conference in 1789 by John Wesley’s physician, Dr. James Hamilton (1740–1827). The first owner of this copy inscribed its title page “Thomas Jones’s, bou[gh]t of Mr. Button, one of Mr. Wesley’s preachers. June, 1790.” George Button (1754–1822), ordained as a Methodist preacher in 1779, served the circuits of Shaftesbury and the Isle of Man.
