Given to James Rouquet and his wife by Mrs. Charles Wesley

[William Law].
A Serious Call to a Holy Life. Extracted from a Late Author by John Wesley.
Newcastle upon Tyne: John Gooding, 1744. (BRA1885)

This copy of John Wesley’s “extracted” edition of A Serious Call to a Holy Life by William Law (1686–1761) was given to James and Anne Rouquet in 1763 by Sarah Gwynne (1726–1822), the wife of Charles Wesley. James Rouquet (1730–1776) lived near Mrs. Wesley in Bristol, where he ministered to prisoners and supervised John Wesley’s Kingswood boarding school. John Wesley mentioned his friend Rouquet in his journal and several letters, and named him as a beneficiary and co-executor of his will of 1770.
