Pen sketch and autograph of Littleton Fowler, undated.

A Tennessee native, Littleton Fowler worked as a Methodist minister and college financial agent before volunteering to go to Texas in 1837. Over the next eight years he labored to advance Methodism in the region. He served as a missionary, superintendent of the Texas Mission, presiding elder, and college agent and trustee. Fowler established churches, raised subscriptions for their construction, and designed their buildings. He attended the General Conference in 1844 and the convention that formed the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Rev. Fowler also farmed and speculated in land.
