Danish Bible of 1550

[Danish Bible]. Biblia, det er, Den gantske Hellige Scrifft, udsaet paa danske.
Copenhagen: Ludwig Dietz, 1550. (Prothro B-192)

This first edition of the Danish translation of the Lutheran Bible is illustrated with fine woodcuts by Erhard Altdorfer (c. 1485–1561), the younger brother of the master painter Albrecht Altdorfer of Regensburg. One of the most remarkable images is the nearly full-page woodcut that introduces the book of Joshua, which depicts the biblical military hero as a Nordic knight in sixteenth-century tournament armor.
