Luyken's New Testament

[Dutch New Testament].
Het Nieuwe Testament van onzen Heere Jesus Christus naar d’oversetting van D. Mart. Lutherus.
Amsterdam: Philip Lopsel [et al.] en Compagnie, 1754. (00094/A)

This Lutheran translation of the Dutch New Testament includes twenty-four etchings by Jan Luyken (1649–1712), one of the most prolific and imaginative Dutch illustrators of the late seventeenth century. His biblical images often place the narratives in Dutch landscapes and contemporary costume. The exhibited etching depicts Christ’s words in Matthew 25:35—“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”
