Moscow: Pecatnyj Dvor, 1663.

The earliest Russian book at Bridwell Library, this Slavonic Bible of 1663 is a reprint of the Ostrog Bible of 1581, the first complete edition of the Bible in Old Church Slavonic and the first printed in Cyrillic type. This 1663 edition features many woodcut ornaments and six large woodcut illustrations, including a frontispiece depicting the city of Moscow and portraits of King David (exhibited here) and the four evangelists, each based on traditional Russian icons.
