Walton's London Polyglot

[Polyglot Bible]. Biblia sacra polyglotta complectentia textus originales [. . .] cum textuum, & versionum orientalium translationibus latinis.Volume 5 of six.
London: Thomas Roycroft, 1653–1658. (31472)

Intended for a scholarly readership, polyglot Bibles rarely featured illustrations. However, Brian Walton’s six-volume “London Polyglot” in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Chaldee, Samaritan Targum, Syriac, Ethiopic, Persian, and Arabic is enriched by several full-page engravings by the noted Bohemian artist Wenceslaus Hollar (1607–1677). The exhibited engraving illustrates the Baptism of Christ.
