Greek and Latin New Testament. Novum Testamentum omne multo quam antehac diligentius ab Erasmo Roterodamo recognitum, emendatum translatum.
Basel: Johannes Froben, 1519. (00001)

The Thomas J. Harrison Bible Collection holds more than three hundred Bibles, with many of the earliest representing texts produced in biblical languages. The exhibition begins with a one-volume portable manuscript Latin Bible produced in England circa 1250. This initial section includes the fifteenth-century transformation of the Bible from manuscript to print, represented by a single leaf from Johann Gutenberg’s Bible (1454–1455) and two additional Latin Bibles printed with movable type in Venice before 1500. Later appearances of biblical languages are also documented with Desiderius Erasmus’s early sixteenth-century Greek and Latin New Testament, and an extremely rare Torah Scroll written in Hebrew in mid-seventeenth-century China.
