Peter Jones (1802–1856), an Ojibwa Methodist missionary who published more than a dozen religious works in the Chippewa (Ojibwa) language, translated this selection of Old Testament narratives. These comprise selections from Genesis including stories of the Creation, Cain and Abel, the Flood and Noah’s Ark, the Tower of Babel, Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph. Illustrated throughout, the volume begins with the eighteen-letter Ojibwa alphabet and a guide to pronunciation of the indigenous language. The work concludes with a natural history guide to creatures found throughout the world.
