Thai Gospel of Mark

Thai Gospel of Mark.
The Gospel of Mark. Translated by J. T. Jones. For the American Bible Society.
Bangkok: Printed at the Union Press by J. H. Chandler, 1849. (BRB1425)

Following the printing of a Thai catechism at Serampore in 1819, portions of the New Testament appeared between 1834 and 1843 at Singapore. First published in 1840, this 1849 edition of the Gospel of Mark was translated and then revised by the American Protestant missionary John Taylor Jones (1802–1851) of the American Baptist Missionary Union. He was assisted by Charles Robinson (d. 1845) and Jesse Caswell (1809–1848) of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Issued in the same year as Jones’s revised Gospels, his revised New Testament was published in 1850.

This copy of the text, printed entirely in Thai, includes a preface opposite the title page serving as a front pastedown and the final page of text included as the rear pastedown.
