Eight of the twenty-six sermons on Exodus in this edition (numbered 1–3, 6, 10, 12, 20, and 23) are marked “questa e prohibita” (“this is prohibited”). In the prohibited Sermon 3, Savonarola responded vehemently to his excommunication by Pope Alexander VI, arguing that such decrees carried no weight with God.
