Quran. Persia, 18th century

Quran.
Illuminated manuscript in Arabic and Farsi on paper.
[Persia, 18th century]. (BRMS 25)

This small-format Quran is written in fine Arabic script with an interlinear Farsi commentary in red ink. The wide marginal panels, framed in magenta, are filled with colorful floral patterns produced with a relatively inexpensive blue pigment and a metallic ground that appears not to be pure gold leaf. The manuscript bears its original painted leather binding.
