(BRB1145/A)

This early sixteenth-century Lutheran liturgy was compiled by the first-generation German reformer Andreas Osiander (1498–1552) with the assistance of Johann Brenz (1499–1570) for use in the territories of George I, Margrave of Brandenburg, including the principality of Ansbach and the city of Nuremberg. Based on the Kirchen ordnung of Martin Luther (1483–1546), which first appeared in 1523, Osiander combined details of the service with a liturgy to produce an evangelical guide for worship and belief. Popularly designated as the Brandenburg-Nürnberger Kirchenordnung, the music of the communion service is printed in red and black. The Bridwell Library copy is bound with the 1533 Osiander catechism for children Catechismus oder Kinder predig, based on Luther’s Small Catechism.
