Albert Outler entered Candler School of Theology at Emory University in the fall of 1930. During his first term he met librarian Carlotta (Carla) Grace Smith. In this exchange of letters from December 1930, Outler and Carla Smith discuss their recent engagement. They were married on December 18, 1931 in the School of Theology chapel with Rev. John M. Outler, Albert’s father, officiating.
