Theologian Joachim Just Breithaupt of Halle University was a close colleague of Spener’s leading disciple, August Hermann Francke (1663–1727). Breithaupt’s 1694 work, Institutes Theologicae,was the first Pietist systematic theology. Drey Passions comprises three sermons on the mysteries of the Passion and the cross of Christ.
