George Whitefield (1714–1770).
The Nature and Necessity of Our New Birth in Jesus Christ: in Order to Salvation.
London: Printed for Charles Rivington, 1739.

George Whitefield was one of the great revival preachers of the eighteenth century. His ministry began in England and concluded in North America, where he died in 1770. A close associate of John Wesley and Charles Wesley and chaplain to the Countess of Huntingdon, Whitefield championed Calvinistic Methodism.

This Whitefield work shown is a published sermon on one of the central themes of the Pietist movement, spiritual rebirth through the transformative working of the Holy Spirit.
