"Das Kleine Davidische Psalterspiel"

Das Kleine Davidische Psalterspiel der Kinder Zions, von Alten und Neuen Auserlesenen Geistes Gesängen.
Chestnuthill, Pennsylvania: Samuel Saur, 1791. (00109)

Samuel Saur (1767–1820), son of Christopher Saur II, restarted the Saur press in 1790. “The Little Davidic Psalter” is the sixth edition of a hymnal popular among eighteenth-century German-speaking sectarians. The hymnal is open to “Sei lob und her dem höchstein Gut” (“Sing praise to God, who reigns above”) by Johann Jakob Schutz (1640–1690). Schutz was a significant hymnodist of the early Pietist movement. Late in life he left the Lutheran church and embraced Radical Pietism through the influence of Johann Wilhelm Petersen.
