Life on the Mississippi

Mark Twain (1835–1910).
Life on the Mississippi.
Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1883. (BRA0827)

While Twain was completing The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, published in 1876, he was also producing a series of magazine articles about his experiences as a Mississippi riverboat pilot. His descriptions from a round trip between St. Louis and New Orleans became the basis for Life on the Mississippi, first published in 1883. Dr. Sellers’s copy is the first state of the first edition.
