The printmaker Bernard Alan Solomon (1946–1995) subtitled this edition of the Song of Songs “a personal perspective” and used for the text his own translation, with reference to the King James Version, the Jerusalem Bible, and the Hebrew Daily Prayers of A. Th. Philips. His written goal for the work was to produce an edition “which would be understood by viewing the images, even before the text is read.” One hundred sixty-seven subtractive woodblocks were prepared to print the multicolor full-page images that accompany the text. The twenty-three gatherings of heavy BFK Rives paper are housed in a cover constructed from blue suede cowhide and set into an aromatic cedar slipcase.
