Subject is exactly "Catechisms, German"
One of the earliest Lutheran catechisms, this is the first edition of this catechism for girls. Has a woodprint of the crucifixion.
Responding to a request from Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I (b. 1503, r. 1531-1564) for a new Catholic catechism, the Dutch-born Jesuit Canisius produced three versions for different readers, including Catechismus minimus for advanced students.
This Roman Catholic catechism appeared in many editions in the 1700s. This edition's frontispiece deatures the Tree of Life with two priests teaching fifteen children accompanied by two adults.
The first and only edition of this Lutheran catechism for young students presents biblical texts in a combination of words and images, a puzzle to be solved and holy text to be read, understood, and memorized.
