[Dikĕlĕ Gospel of Matthew.]
The Gospel of Matthew in the Dikĕlĕ Language.
Gabon, West Africa:  Press of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, 1855.

(BRB1049)

Dikĕlĕ, spoken in Gabon, is one of a dozen Kele or Sheke languages found in the Niger and Congo regions of Africa. Printed in roman types with diacritics, this 1855 Gospel of Matthew, printed in Gabon at the press of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, is the first published portion of the Bible in this language.  A translation of the Gospel of John was later printed in 1879 in New York by the American Bible Society.
