Italian Renaissance Revival
The Holy Gospel According to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
[Verona: Officina Bodoni, 1962]. (Prothro B-313)
The Officina Bodoni, founded in 1922 by Giovanni Mardersteig (1892–1977), produced fine limited editions in Verona until 1977. In this edition of the Gospels, printed in Mardersteig’s Renaissance-inspired “Zeno” typeface, Bruno Bramant’s 114 illustrations recreate woodblocks originally designed in 1495 by the Florentine artist Bartolommeo de Giovanni.
