Slavonic Bible

[Slavonic (Russian) Bible].
[Moscow: Pecatnyj Dvor, 1663]. (BRA2390)

The earliest Russian book at Bridwell Library, this Slavonic Bible is the 1663 reprint of the Ostrog Bible of 1581, the first complete edition of the Bible in Old Church Slavonic and the first printed in Cyrillic type. Intended for the Orthodox inhabitants of the region, the Bible relied heavily on the Greek Septuagint and the Slavonic Bible of Archbishop Gennadius (d. 1505).
