Julie B. Stackpole

Stackpole received her B.A. from Kirkland College in 1972. She studied with Katheryn Gerlach in Vermont, at the Scuola D'Arte per Legatoria Artistica in Switzerland, at the Camberwell School of Art in London, and with Roger Powell in England. Stackpole established her own bindery in Thomaston, Maine, where she continues to specialize in creative fine binding and rare book restoration.

Bound in a full leather closed joint binding with sculpted boards in emerald green, royal blue, and purple Niger goatskin with silver kid. Gold-tooled titling on the spine, blind tooling and multicolored leather onlays on the front board. Top edge gilt and colored, with gauffering and worked silk headbands. Gum arabic endpapers with leather hinges. Drop-back box with purple leather spine, book cloth sides, and padded silk lining.

Design Description: 
Full leather closed joint binding on nine raised bands with gray Niger goatskin, blind tooling and onlays of beige, warm gray and blue leathers. Titling in gold, cream paper endpapers with leather hinges, hand-sewn headbands, and gilt top edges. The endpapers will display a collage of images from 1904 Dublin.
