Judith S. Thompson

Dallas, Texas
Born in Palo Alto, California, Thompson received her B.A. in Art from the University of California at Davis. She studied bookbinding and restoration with Jan Sobota for three years, with Tini Miura to learn the fine binding in the French tradition, and with Frank Mowery to learn German fine binding. Thompson does custom work from her studio, Ampersand Hand Bindery, in Dallas.

German style full leather binding in burgundy Niger goatskin.Die-stamped spine title and design on front and back boards. Hand-sewn headbands in black and burgundy silk.

Design Description: 
Bound in full leather using dark green French morocco. A keyhole cut out on the front board reveals the same die-stamped image used on the back cover. Both images will be tooled using a traditional lampblack method. Die-stamped spine with title colored with lampblack. Edge to edge doublures of dark green Niger goatskin will use a die-stamped design on the free side of the front and back doublure.
