Fourteenth-Century Bohemian Missal for Dominican Use

[Missal. Dominican Use].
[Bohemia, late 14th century].
Decorated manuscript on vellum. (BRMS 17)

The presence of several Bohemian saints, including St. Wenceslaus, in the calendar of this missal localizes the manuscript to Bohemia, perhaps produced in Prague. The decoration consists of red and blue decorated initials with ornate pen work extensions in purple or mauve filling the margins. Various prefaces set to plainchant are provided with musical notation in three-line staves.
