In Christ Shown to the People, Pontius Pilate leaves Christ’s fate in the hands of the people, who cry out “Crucify him!” In this dramatic composition, the captive Christ is presented in such a way that the viewer is part of the gathered crowd; thus, the viewer is implicated in Christ’s savage treatment by humankind.
