Adam Clarke's Manuscript for his Bible Commentary

Adam Clarke.
Preface to the Book of Exodus. Autograph manuscript.
[London, c. 1798–1825].

Adam Clarke (c. 1762–1832) was the Methodist movement’s greatest biblical scholar. His six-volume The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments... with a Commentary and Critical Notes… by Adam Clarke, compiled between 1798 and 1825, long remained in general scholarly use. Clarke’s manuscript of the “Preface to the Book of Exodus” is one of several drafts for his Bible commentary that were given to Bridwell Library by the Methodist Bishop Frederick DeLand Leete (1866–1958).
