This is the sole edition of this compilation of devotional verse, intended for children already familiar with Mrs. Barbauld’s extremely popular Hymns in Prose for Children. The volume includes hymns, prayers, songs, and other verse as well as a prose section devoted to the Collects of the Church of England. The work concludes with “a catechism; that is to say, an instruction to be learned of every person, before he be brought to be confirmed by the Bishop.”
