Twenty Six Choice Poetical Extracts, Selected from Celebrated Authors, and Printed from Copper Plates Engraved Expressly for the Work, Each Embellished with a Beautiful Vignette, Illustrative of the Subject.
London: Published by R. Miller, [1814–1815]. (BRB0659)
Engraved throughout, this volume is illustrated with a detailed vignette for each poetical extract. Devotional verses include portions of poems by Dr. Stennett, Isaac Watts, and Mrs. Barbauld. Many note the original place and date of publication as well as the author. An advertisement at the rear of the volume indicates that in addition to being sold as a bound volume, this work was available “printed on large cards, from copperplates, each embellished with a beautiful vignette.” The publisher also offered The Scripture Alphabet and Isaac Watts’s Divine and Moral Songs printed in this format on cards.
This copy belonged to Marjorie Moon, the noted scholar, bibliographer, and collector of juvenile literature, with her bookplate and homemade protective wrapper.
