A miniature book on church history and religion for Dutch children, this work was issued in two volumes with thirty-six engraved plates. The illustrations include scenes from the Old and New Testaments, portraits of religious figures, and religious history. This set is bound in contemporary calf with spines and boards elaborately decorated in gilt and all edges gilt. The volumes are differentiated on the spines with “KE” on the first volume and “RN” on the second volume, together representing the first word of the title. In English “kern” may be translated as kernel or seed, or for this work the heart of church history.
