Mrs. Thomas Geldart was a prolific author of juvenile literature from 1849 until her death in 1861. Two of her stories for older children, The Watch-Towers and (on display) The Peace-Maker were issued together in a single volume with the title of the latter stamped in gilt on the front cover. The book’s title is derived from Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the children of God.”
