Questions (and Answers) about the Bible, Published for Families and Sunday Schools

Daniel P. Kidder (1815–1891), editor.
Curious and Useful Questions on the Bible. Designed for Sunday Schools and Families.
New York: Published by Carlton & Porter, [ca. 1856.].
[With:] Key to Curious and Useful Questions on the Bible.
New York: Published by Carlton & Porter, [ca. 1856.]. Five volumes. (BRB0465)

An attractive set of small pamphlets published for the Sunday School Union of the Methodist Episcopal Church, these five volumes comprise the first, second, and third series of Curious and Useful Questions on the Bible and the companion Key volumes. Kidder believed that a suitable variety of questions would maintain students’ interest and lead young scholars to read the entire Bible to find the answers. The Key was issued separately to ensure that the correct answers were readily available, “for the guidance at least of teachers.” The third series of Curious and Useful Questions and the companion Key are both open to questions and answers, respectively, about “The Leopard, the Stork, and the Crane.”
